Our Story

Watch our 190th Anniversary video on the history of our church

Haddonfield United Methodist Church has a rich legacy as a strong regional community of faith, known for inspiring worship services, extraordinary music programs, missional heart, and programs for children and youth. For over 190 years, our congregation has innovated new ways to make the good news of God’s love relevant and accessible for the current moment.

Even before we were a church, Francis Asbury, one of the first Methodist bishops in America, preached three times in Haddonfield in the late 1700s. This inspired people to form Methodist societies in the area, which ultimately became the first Haddonfield Methodist Episcopal Church in 1829. Over the years, our building has relocated four times to the site where we currently stand. The church burned down in 1955 resulting in the construction of our current building that houses our sanctuary in 1957.

Today, through the adaptation of new technology, planting non-profit organizations and churches, and developing world changing leaders, we take our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world seriously. Offering worship in different styles, small groups, community events, and other ministries, we seek to meet people where they are and help each person live as God has created them to be.
